A productive and exciting morning

We discovered this very unusual grave this morning for Grace Hastings and her husband. William Hardinge Hastings. I have done a bit of research and he was R.W. Sampson’s friend and it was William who encouraged Sampson to stay in Sidmouth. Major Hastings was the Estate Manager for the Balfours of Sidmouth Manor.

More graves uncovered and discovered

This first picture shows the grave which was completely covered by the brambles in the second picture and the same goes for the 3rd picture. Mick Street uncovered a grave that said a man died falling from his horse, the history we are uncovering is fascinating. No Paul today

Have done some more research and looking through my Sidmouth people book this appears to be John Field who owned Field’s Department store unless there was another John Field who died at the same age in Sidmouth...
