Graveyards are renowned for lichen but we usually think of them as being found on memorial stones. In reallity lichen can be found on many surfaces and in early Feb 2025 Ed Dolphin took a look at some on trees.
On a contorted holly he found grey patches which are Pertusaria leioplaca.

And also Graphis elegans, the elegant script lichen. Note the small pale grey patches with little black lirellae (spore producing organs) marks like commas.

Representing another family common in the Cemetery is the Asterisk lichen Arthonia radiata, below left. Very pale grey patches that hardly show up, with black star shaped lirellae.

An Acer has several small patches of its cousin Arthonia atra which has more crowded lirellae

Our thanks to Ed for letting us share his pictures and knowledge.
