“Thank you to the volunteers who have worked so hard” at Sidmouth Cemetery

The efforts of the volunteers of the Cherishing Sidmouth’s Cemeteries’ working party are often rewarded by heartfelt feedback from locals and visitors – from those who enjoy the peace and quiet of the place and from those who have loved ones buried at the cemetery.

Here is a lovely email just received from a regular visitor to Sidmouth and the main cemetery:

“I visited Sidmouth Cemetery last Sunday (6th October) and just wanted to say thank you to the volunteers who have worked so hard to return it to it’s present state. I have been visiting almost annually for 35+ years and until a few years ago, had always been impressed with it’s neatness. However, in more recent visits had found it to be untended and scruffy. I wonder if it is possible to make a small donation to the volunteer group for them to spend as they see fit to assist in their work, either for equipment or plants for the cemetery.”

With a further note from the same correspondent:

“It was lovely to visit the grave of a very special and dear lady and see everywhere looking so neat and tidy this visit. I have followed the progress via facebook and am personally very grateful for the hard work put in by the volunteers.”

Thank you for such positive feedback! And thank you for letting us share this more widely.

To finish, here’s a recent photo from August, taken by a member of the Cemeteries group – showing ‘neat and tidy’ whilst not too ‘shaven and shorn’.

We hope your own visit to Sidmouth Cemetery is worthwhile – and do get in touch with us, even if your comment is not so glowing!
