The U3A exploring nature in the Cemetery

The Sidmouth Nature Explorers are one of the many very active groups of the U3A in Sidmouth – and they have a rich archive of blog posts reporting on their monthly explorations.

As they say: “We meet at a Sidmouth location for a short accessible stroll aiming to spot and identify as many aspects of Sidmouth’s wildlife as possible.”

Last month, the U3A were exploring nature down Glen Goyle

And this month they were doing the same up at Sidmouth Cemeterey.

Here’s the report from the leaders of the Sidmouth Nature Explorers, Malcolm Seymore and Kevin Walker – together with some fine photos of their ‘stroll’:

On Wednesday 1st of April a group from the nature explorer’s were joined by some volunteers from the Cherishing Sidmouth Cemeteries group, for a wild plant and flowers hunt in the wild area of the town cemetery.

It was a cool and cloudy morning, but 12 of us braved the weather and had a very productive day, finding 37 different plants and quite a few in flower, also 9 different birds and one lonely violet oil beetle.

All in all a very good morning, showing the cemetery is a good habitat for plants and various wildlife.
