Uncovering family graves in the Cemetery: the Barratts

Back in 2011, the Herald’s chief reporter Diana Bowerman put together a fascinating piece for the Herald on The Barratt family – master tailors in Sidmouth.

At the last session of the CSC working party, volunteers managed to uncover five separate Barratt burial plots in the old part of the cemetery. As we report, “It is such a shame to see the state the graves have got into.”

Since then, members of the CSC have undertaken further research into the Barrat family – and the VGS webmaster has just created a new piece under the Memorials/Graves and Links to Records tabs as The Barratts, a tailoring family – with more photos and details o, the family.

With a little more here:

William Barker Barratt was the Parish Clerk for nearly 30 years and his son Edwin seems to have spent a long time in London before returning to Sidmouth and taking over. He also took over the Parish Clerk job before his Dad died.
